In 1870 there were only 705 residents in Marshall Township. Among them, however, were a few Presbyterians who had been holding church and Sabbath school services in the Forsythe (later called Woodpecker) School on Pleasant Hill Road. During that year they built a house of worship, Pleasant Hill Church, in a grove on the northeast corner of the present cemetery. In the beginning the church had two doors with two side aisles and three blocks of seats, one down the center of the building. There was an interior chimney and the windows had Gothic type arches. A pale fence enclosed the entire churchyard. In 1937 the church structure was moved across the road to its current location and In 1957 an addition was added. |
In 1972 Pleasant Hill Church and Warrendale Presbyterian Church merged to become Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church. Today, over 53 years later, our congregation continues to:
Proclaim God's word, Show God's love, Inspire growth in faith and a deeper relationship with Christ. |
